The volcanoes and underwater eruptions off the Canary island of El Hierro were the big talking point of an edition that brought together around 10,000 enthusiasts, collectors and students.

Expominer, the biggest trade fair in southern Europe for buying and exchanging minerals, fossils, meteorites and precious stones, was once again the epicentre of the geological world for three days.

Expominer showed visitors to the fair the first and only sample of lava from the underwater eruption that started on 10 October off the Canary island of El Hierro, which the regional council has authorized to be exhibited in public.

Back to prehistoric times

The new president of the trade fair, Eudald Carbonell, transported visitors back to the era of Homo antecessor during a presentation full of details about this ancestor of modern-day Europeans, whose remains have been found at the Sima del Elefante (Elephant’s Pit) in the Sierra of Atapuerca.

Learning while having fun

Our youngest visitors enjoyed the workshops on dinosaurs, volcanology and panning for gold, and the drawing competition. Check out the winners of this latest edition of the competition, “The Universe and Minerals”.
