"From Homo antecessor to Homo exnovo", by Eudald Carbonell

Eudald Carbonell, President of Expominer, briefly reviewed some of the major revolutions that have had a profound effect on us, in this order: the Neolithic revolution, the industrial revolution and the scientific-technological revolution.

Also he talked about the appearance of a new species: Homo exnovo.

Drawing contest

Expominer invited participants for this year's edition of its traditional drawing contest, open to pupils aged under 14 at any school in Catalonia.

"Live Geology"

With the cooperation of Barcelona University's Faculty of Geology, this will be a place to awaken vocations among young enthusiasts who want to learn more about the world we live in.

"Minerals of the future" exhibition

Expominer presented the "Minerals of the future" exhibition, organised by the Fundación Caixa Manresa and the Valentí Masachs Geology Museum. Its purpose was to show the beneficial and harmful applications and uses made by humans of certain minerals in their day-to-day life, both today and in the future.

Workshops: "Minerals and radioactivity" and "Minerals and photography"

Radioactivity workshop to explain what radioactivity is, how radioactive minerals are formed, the different types of radioactive particles, etc. And photography workshop to explain how to photograph small objects such as minerals, fossils and gems. With the collaboration of the Grup Mineralògic Català.

"Spain's first stamp"

Do you know when Spain's first stamp was issued? And what the postmarks looked like at that time? And how much one of these historic stamps could be worth? The answers to these and other interesting questions at one of the largest collections on this subject in Expominer.

"Postal history of Catalonia"

From pre-philatelic letters prior to the 18th century (before the appearance and use of stamps) to original bills of exchange. The exhibition included historic items about the Civil War and the Republican exile.

"The Republican exile"

Letters to prisoners at concentration camps. Cards and photographs that never reached their intended recipients, because they were censored or the addressee had died.

A touching collection of documents that reflects the hardships suffered by the Republicans in exile after the Civil War.

Barça displays

· Collection of official stamps, with images of the players and the team's latest achievements

· Collection of official badges

· Collection of pins: more than 2,300 items from Barça supporters' clubs from around the world that have been collected over the last 50 years or more.

The Olympic Games

The collection of stamps commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games was on show to the public for the first time. A stamp collection of the London 2012 Olympic Games was also on show.

There were also stands with all the latest for coin collectors:

· New euro coins from different countries

· Silver coins with images of animals from Australia or Somalia

· American silver ounces

· And old and modern stamps with a variety of themes
