These demonstrations were consist of cutting a number of geodes to show their attractive interior, consisting of amethyst or chalcedony crystals. Organised by the company “Lithos”.
This exhibition showed the evolution of birds, from dinosaurs to the present day. There will be complete skeletons of Deinonychus, Velociraptor, Dromaeosaurus and a life-size, two-metre high replica of the meat-eating bird Diatryma.
These demonstrations showed the process undergone by precious stones to transform them from their natural state into bright, sparkling jewels, through the work of a craftsman. Organised by the School of Gemology.
The participants were given sterile sand and a vial to practice the art of panning to look for gold particles. Organised with the assistance of the Catalan Association of Gold Seekers.
Using panels and images, this explained the origin and history of the first silver and lead mines at the Conca del Priorat and the sites at Masroig and Vinebre. The goal pursued is to teach children the value of natural resources.

This talk analysed The Lapidarium, a medical and magical treatise about the properties of stones and related with astronomy, written in about 1250 AD. Organised by the bookshop “Epsilon”.
This is a tunnel containing a large number of fluorescent minerals such as fluorites, calcites, chalcedonies, agates and opals. When ultraviolet light is projected onto these minerals, they start to glow with a light of their own in surprising colours.
Given by Dr. Manuel Arrieta, who believes that fossils possess a tremendous evocative power that helps to induce a hypnotic state.

Junior category: Laura Torres López, from the Col·legi Sant Bonaventura school in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) for her drawing The shine of minerals.
Children’s category: Xavi Camps Portabella from the Lleó XIII school in Barcelona for Quartz.
